2015 MJSA Conference
October 17, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - October 19, 2015 @ 1:00 pm| TBD
Hosted by the Jewish Studies Program at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas.
The conference will take place at the Eldridge Hotel with panel sessions held in the Bliss and Valentine rooms across the street in the Eldridge Extended. There will be a buffet dinner on Sunday, Oct 18 in the Crystal Ballroom at the Eldridge (not the Extended) followed by keynote speaker Gabriel Finder who will talk about Jewish honor courts. Gabriel Finder is the Ida and Nathan Kolodiz Director of Jewish Studies and Associate Professor in the Department of Germanic Languages and Literature at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Here is a link to his UVa Faculty page.
The Call for Papers (CFP) is now available - CFP-2015-MJSA!
Accommodation: Because the conference is taking place over a home football weekend, we will be making special arrangements to bring down the costs of hotel rooms to about $125-$150 per night for guests.
RESERVATION INFORMATION: To make a reservation at the Eldridge Hotel please call (785) 749-5011 or (800) 527-0909. Phone, fax and email information for the Eldridge Hotel can be found here: http://eldridgehotel.com/
When calling the Eldridge Hotel to make a reservation, please refer to the room block name: KU Jewish Studies Conference. You will be charged $75 less per night than the regular football weekend rates if you reserve a room in this room block.
Please note the following policies regarding this room block:
1. You can make reservations until 6pm on August 18, however cancellations need to be made before 4:00pm on that day to receive a full refund.
2. Reservations cannot be made for a single night, reservations need to be made for both nights (Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18).
3. You will need to pay for both nights in full at the time the reservation is made.
Transportation to Lawrence: For those flying into MCI we recommend renting a car or taking a shuttle or taxi to get to Lawrence – GTS shuttle is highly recommended (It is listed on the transportation link already on the site). Although Amtrak does stop in Lawrence, we do not recommend taking Amtrak or Greyhound from the airport as this can be very inconvenient. For those driving, I-70 is the most convenient and direct route from MCI and the toll is under $2.00. There are also shuttle services available - here is a list provided on the KU website.
Valet parking is available at the Eldridge for $10/day. For those who do not wish to use valet service, parking on the street and in parking lots is monitored from 9:30am-6pm Monday-Saturday. So, after 6pm on Saturday and all day Sunday parking outside is free and for Monday there are 2 hour free lots and 10 hour lots around the block from the hotel. More information can be found here: http://www.lawrenceks.org/
More information will be forthcoming as we receive it.
